It has been argued that the concept of heterosexism is similar to the concept of in that both ideas promote privilege for dominant groups within a given society. For example, borrowing from the racial concept of , the concept of has been applied to benefits of (presumed) heterosexuality within society that heterosexuals take for granted. The analogy is that just as racism against non-white people places white people as superior to , heterosexism places heterosexual people or relationships as superior to ones. In trying to rebut this premise, some commentators point to differences between the categories of race and sexual orientation, claiming they are too complex to support any generalizations. For example, "" and consultant Jamie Washington has commented, although heterosexism and racism are "woven from the same fabric" they are "not the same thing". Some American Conservative leaders such as comment that those who suggest or state "gay is the new black", as in a cover story of magazine, exploit 's suffering and experiences to legitimize their own. Nonetheless, a study presented at the 's Division of Occupational Psychology 2009 Conference shows that heterosexist prejudice is more pervasive than racism.
The twoprimary sources that have the power and ability to diminishdiscrimination against LGBT youths are schools and parents. In myopinion, they are the ones who have the greatest influence on LGBTyouths and in turn have the ability to reduce substance abuse, educational failure, and suicides. Parents and schools need to realizehow much they can help diminish the effects of discrimination againstLGBT youths if they work together and productively. Clearly, if theyremain on the same page they can ease the agony for LGBT youths andhelp them live a normal and happy life. One method that can beexercised in schools is a homosexual sensitivity training for anti-gaystudents and school officials. The training would benefit both studentsand school officials. I think that it would help the school officialsmanage whatever prejudices they may have against LGBT youths. Sinceanti-gay bullying students are perhaps ignorant to the subject, schoolsshould modify a system where all students can be educated on thesubject. It would probably help the students get a better understandingif homosexuality was compared to other subject matters such as cultureand religion. Students should be provided with a full view of thesubject just like any other. If this method helps only two out of tenanti-gay students cease discrimination against LGBT students, I am surethat it will make a difference. An additional scheme that should beestablished is monthly meetings between school officials and parents toreview the progress of measures that are already in place.
Dworkin commented on the Hart-Devlin debate by considering a scenario in which a citizen decides to vote against a man running for a public office because he is aware the candidate is homosexual and because he believes that homosexuality is profoundly immoral. He postulates several fundamental rules of moral reasoning and finds that if a decision to vote against a person due to his homosexuality is to have a rational basis, certain types of reasoning are excluded. Dworkin resolves that even a reason not disqualified by virtue of prejudice, emotional reaction, or social pressure may be insufficient. The reason produced must be one that is consistently held. Dworkin concludes thus:
Another reason why prejudice against gay people is justified is, God gave complementary roles to man and woman in order for the family unit to be strengthened. In Genesis 2: 18, woman was meant to be the helper that was needed dearly by man. However, her role was not to be an inferior one (Eskridge& Spedale 2006).Christians feel that gay people should be ashamed of themselves and that any queer sexuality public celebration is wrong.

Prejudice against gay people is not justified because being gay is not a choice but something in born (they are made that way). Again, since it does not harm anyone else apart from the participants, then I don't see any reason for people to have prejudice against it (Andryszewski 2008). Also, if to those involved it feels right, then it is nobody else's business. Another reason is, if heterosexual relationships are considered to be valid, then homosexual relationships should not be condoned since they are equally the same. Another reason why gay people should not be prejudiced against is, they help raise children who do not have families in a family institution and also they lead the institution of marriage which is batter than becoming prostitutes (Rauch 2004).
Prejudice and discrimination in Philadelphia Essays
Everyone is prejudice in some way or another. People are taught at a very young age to discriminate against others. Whether it is because of race, religion, sexuality, gender, age, personality or way of life, everyone pre-judges. Experiencing uprising discrimination lately are homosexuals. Anti gay/lesbian discrimination tends to be particularly brutal and nasty. Homosexuals are victims of prejudice for multiple reasons. Homosexuality contradicts some religious beliefs such as the traditional family (man, wife and child), and unusual behavior. They come across problems with getting married, getting jobs, receiving and giving education, adoption and much more. Bahamians often use words associated with homosexuality as standard insults, reinforcing the conception that it is highly undesirable to be gay. This can silence young people who are experiencing gay feelings and prevent them from revealing their sexuality, and even encourage young gay men to pretend to be heterosexual and join in homophobic taunts to protect themselves. Many gay and lesbian adults who began to identify themselves as 'different' in their school years say that the absence of support, understanding, and/or information was sometimes a source of distress in itself and often magnified their anxieties. There are many different ways in which homosexual people experience homophobia, including malicious gossip, name-calling, intimidating looks, internet bullying, vandalism and theft of property, discrimination at work, school and the community, isolation and rejection, sexual assault, or in some countries, being sentenced to death. All forms of homophobia are destructive, not just for people living openly as a homosexual, but for society as a whole. Living in a homophobic environment forces many homosexuals to conceal their sexuality, for fear of the negative reactions and consequences of coming out. For people who have been brought up to believe that...

Prejudice against the gay people is justified since it is something that is against the will of God. When God created the first human beings he did not create Adam and Zechariahs but instead he created Adam and Eve. Why? The reason is, he wanted the institution of marriage to be of a man and a woman and not a man and a man or a woman and a woman reason being procreation "Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth." Genesis 1: 28. When we look at the reasons for marriage procreation comes first, then companionship then fulfillment of each others sexual needs.
